Convert to table
[edit]The editors Kleinzach and Michael Bednarek have proposed to present this list as a table; this will probably take about a week. Please don't make any major changes to this page until then, or contact those users. Thank you. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 01:04, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Sinfonia Domestica
[edit]Why is this article using the non-standard title of Symphonia Domestica? The German language article does not use this. I would move the article, but I am in no mood to register, as is the requirement for doing so. Just a thought! 88.105.67.46 (talk) 21:31, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- You wouldn't need to move anything. Symphonia Domestica redirects to Sinfonia Domestica. You could correct this article without having to log in. You'd have to log in to do any moves. James470 (talk) 23:58, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Burleske in D minor: no opus number
[edit]It's been suggested I raise here a question that I couldn't get a satisfactory answer to at Talk:Richard Strauss#Burleske in D minor.
Strauss never gave the Burleske an opus number, yet it is often referenced as Op. 11, which belongs to a different work, the Horn Concerto in E flat. How did this false opus number get into reference works? -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 02:03, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'd try at the Talk page for the piece itself, as there has been some recent activity there, and they might know. Softlavender (talk) 03:15, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Het Wilhelmus
[edit]Missing from the list is Strauss's Variations on Wilhelm von Oranien (Het Wilhelmus: the Dutch National Anthem) for military band. Apparently the music was lost and (I assume) not rediscovered until fairly recently. You can listen to it on YouTube, beautifully played by the Band of the Netherlands Royal Marines: here.
I've just found the reference on the Web: Richard Strauss: VARIATIONEN ÜBER “WILHELM VON ORANIEN” 1892 Den Haag. Koninklijke Collecties, 1923. (Presumably it was in 1923 that it entered the Dutch Royal Collections.) Kranf (talk) 20:28, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
Dance Suite for chamber orchestra after keyboard pieces by Couperin
[edit]slight confusion as written. There is the original "Dance Suite for chamber orchestra after keyboard pieces by Couperin" published in 1923. This has the TrV number 245. This was part of a Ballet "Ballet soiree", which also included music by Ravel and Rameau.
Then in 1941 there is TrV 245a "Bygone celbration: Dance visions for two centuries" ("Verklange Feste..." This was the original dance suite from 1923 with added material to make it into a full length Ballet (Klemens Krauss encouraged Strauss to do this). The premier was at Munich in April 1941.
The additional material Strauss had added to the original 1923 suite was extracted from "Verklange Feste" and made into a suite, which was given an opus number 86 and premiered by the Vienna Phil on 31 Jan 1943.
I suspect that the performing score for "Verklange Feste" was not discovered in Garmisch until well after the AV numbers were compiled (1959), but was available for the TrV in 1999. "Verklange Feste" was not just the 1923 Dance suite and 1943 Divertimento run one after the other - the two were intermixed. Byronmercury (talk) 14:46, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
The ISMLP complete listing is based solely on the TrV numbers, so is clearer on this issue. I have there fore altered the entry.Byronmercury (talk) 14:45, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Andante for Horn and Piano (1888)
[edit]This piece was written in 1888 for the silver wedding of his parents. It was "lost" (somewhere in Garmisch!) and rediscovered sometime after his death. It has since become standard repertiore for the horn (used as Horn exam piece - in the UK ABRSM grade 6). It should be on this list. However, as far as I can make out it has no TrV or AV number, and the music simply decribes it as "Opus Posth". Should I add it in 1988 and simply put "Op. post". in opus number column? Suggestions welcome! Byronmercury (talk) 16:19, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- I was actually tagging my copy of that piece recently. The IMSLP list suggests it's AV 86a. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 01:03, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- thanks for that tip. The Boosey and Hawkes music has neither TrV or AV. The TrV from IMSLP seems to fit, and the work would have been public when it was compiled, so I have gone with the TrV and left AV blank. Added it, with explanatory dedication (possibly badly translated!).Byronmercury (talk) 08:50, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
